Setbacks are inevitable in life. A setback can act as a driving force and also teach us humility. In grief you will find courage and faith to overcome the setback. We need to learn to become victors, not victims. Fear and doubt short circuit the mind. Ask yourself after every setback: What did I learn from this experience? What should I do to make sure this doesn’t repeat again? Only then will you be able to turn a stumbling block into a stepping stone. Disappointments will cross your path in the future. Every day brings its share of challenges. Still, we can choose to enjoy each day as it comes, purposing not to dwell on the things we can’t change. As our attitude towards life changes, we identify the opportunities left in front of us. This hope re-ignites in our hearts, and we begin to dream again.

Find Out If You Are Any Good
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009Poet Robert Frost once declared: “There’s no such thing as Earth’s becoming an easier place for man to save his soul in. Except as a hard place to save his soul in-a trial ground where he can test himself and find out whether he is any good, it would be meaningless.” I’ve kept this gritty admonition handy since I first came across it 50 years ago-which is odd for a guy like me. I find most dictums are too unctuous or insipid to be of any use. But this jab of New Hampshire attitude hits me like a sharp punch in the nose. No whining or alibis allowed. Know that life is about making your mark, your contribution, in your own style, as the world around you is changing-every day. In my ripening years, I’ve grown more aware that the quality of life is and will be very much a matter of choice and the choice of what matters.

Saturday, May 9th, 2009The following quote is attributed to Helen Keller. “When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us.” If a blind and deaf mute could see opportunity then surely all of us can learn from her remarkable attitude. While she may not have had the gift of sight, she certainly possessed vision.

Using NLP and Public Speaking to Reach Out to Teens
Wednesday, May 6th, 2009Over the last 15 years, I’ve had the great honor of speaking to and training many teenagers. Many of them are angels who are deeply touched by what you say. Others are completely nonchalant to the need for change. It’s those who are nonchalant, rebellious and give attitude that spice up my speaking career.
