What are affirmations? They are affirmative statements that you use to condition your subconscious mind to act in your favor instead of against you! Nearly all of us have an ongoing inner dialogue that chatters, interrupts, criticizes and sabotages for ourselves. We make an effort to “be positive” or “stay focused”, but then a vicious little voice shows up from “nowhere” telling you that there´s no point, that you cannot do it, that you don´t deserve it or any other negative statement that undermines your intentions. That is usually your ego fighting for survival.

Saturday, June 20th, 2009While it’s generally agreed upon that a “good” affirmation is one that’s personal, in the present tense, and so on, a friend of mine blew all that theory out of the water when her wonderfully “bad” affirmation, the one that broke all the rules of how to construct an affirmation, actually moved her from experiencing inner turmoil to knowing true inner peace. How could that be? Shouldn’t the exact opposite have occurred? That’s what the theory says at least, but I think there’s more going on than theory.

If your version of resting involves flopping on a pillow with your meditation journal empty and your affirmations unspoken try this affirmation. It is easy and you can say it whether you are half asleep or barely awake. Actually this affirmation would work better if you are zoned out and unable to think straight anyway. Here it is. Write it on a piece of paper and place it on your mirror, your fridge and in your car (ok, maybe not your car, zone out somewhere else if you must).
